Spain: bank unions criticize the pressure and threats employees are faced with because of the financial crisis

Employees in the banking sector refuse to pick up the pieces of the financial crisis. Discontent is rising and unions are mobilizing. The representatives of the Comfia-CCOO de la Caixa and of Banesto were the first to denounce managers' edginess and management mistakes. The two union federations warned that the cost reduction policy cannot happen through an aggravation of working conditions. (Ref. 080770)

The trade unions of the two banking groups published two rather similar press releases to protest against their management’s attitude. They blame some managers for intensifying pressure and repeating threats of closing bank agencies. In its press release, Comfia-CCOO de la Caixa highlighted that “these threats go against the management’s commitment to come up with trade solutions to revitalize the less dynamic branches.” The press release mentions threats of termination of contracts at the end
