Spain: employers and unions break off talks on the reform of collective bargaining

Turnaround in the home run.  Employers and union representatives spoke at separate press conferences and blamed each other for the failure of talks.  Negotiations went off on Monday, May 30th, “the day the break really happened” declared Candido Mendez, UGT general secretary.  “We were 15 minutes away from an agreement” said Ignacio Fernandez Toxo, his counterpart at Workers’ Commissions (CCOO).  Juan Rosell, President of the employers’ organization, said that the break was mutual and blames unions for being “too cautious in the face of the employers’ organization’s more daring proposals.”  “I hope that, in the future, they will be braver and able to undertake changes that need to be more ambitious.  Our stances are quite distant but, in the near future, they should converge.”
