On 11 June, Spanish labour minister Yolanda Diaz launched a national campaign to raise awareness among businesses about the risks of worker exposure to high temperatures. The country's labour inspectorate will step up its monitoring of sectors most exposed to outdoor work and companies found to be in breach of the regulations will face fines of up to €980,000.
Yolanda Diaz, Spain’s labour minister, unveiled on 11 June the summer campaign to raise awareness among companies of the occupational risks associated with exposure to high temperatures and to remind them of the importance of preventive measures. “We will not only monitor working conditions during the summer, but also combat irregular hiring and fraud,” she warned, pointing out that the number of days of extreme heat has been increasing in recent years due to climate change.
