Spain's ministry of labour has informed the social partners of its intention to raise the minimum wage to €1,221 gross per month. This increase is expected to be approved by the Council of Ministers in the coming weeks and immediately enacted by decree, with retroactive effect from 1 January 2026.

On 7 January, the Spanish government proposed increasing the gross monthly minimum wage to €1,221 over 14 months, or a total of €17,014 gross per year. On a 12-month basis, the wage level should rise from €1,381 to €1,424 from 1 January 2026. This increase of €37 per month will represent a 3.1% increase compared to 2025, which is slightly above the inflation rate of 2.9%, according to the statistics institute’s price index.
