On 29 January 2025, Spain's labour minister announced that the minimum wage would be raised by €50 a month, marking an increase of 4.41%. This decision, taken after consultation with the social partners, was approved by the trade unions but not by the employers' organisations.
The minimum interprofessional wage (SMI) will rise from €1,134 to €1,184 gross per month in 2025. Under Spanish law, employers are obliged to pay employees two extra months, in June and December, bringing the annual remuneration to €16,576. Measured over 12 months, the Spanish minimum wage therefore rises from €1,323 to €1,381. This increase will benefit just over 2 million people, or 12% of the employed population, according to the Workers’ Commissions trade union.
