A Spanish court has recognised the mental health problems suffered by an employee, who was exposed to intense pressure when tasked with filtering the most sensitive content for Meta (formerly Facebook), as a workplace accident.
The ruling handed down by Barcelona’s social affairs court found that “work-related stress was the sole, exclusive and indubitable trigger” of the psychological problems suffered by the employee in question. The person spent two years working for CCC Barcelona Digital Services SL, a Meta subcontractor responsible for monitoring and filtering illegal content and fake news (acquired in 2020 by the Canadian company Telus International).
