Spain: the UGT union requires measures to revive the automobile market

Worried about the decrease in the number of new license plates during the first trimester of 2008, the MCA-UGT, the UGT's metal and construction federation, requests the establishment of a series of measures to feed consumers' trust, support the Spanish market and try to ensure that the economic slowdown won't damage the automobile industry too much. It notably proposes the renewal of the plan to support the renewal of the car fleet and the opening of opportunities to access bank credits for potential buyers. (Ref. 080374)

According to the association of professionals in the sales sector, non renewing the plan to support the renewal of the car fleet (Prever), which ended on December 31, 2007, led to an important decrease in the number of vehicles withdrawn from traffic for the first trimester of 2008, a 34% recession compared to the first trimester of 2007.
