On 3 April, car manufacturer Stellantis announced the temporary halted production at its assembly plants in Mexico and Canada. The reason for this is the 25% tariff imposed by the US government on imported vehicles and parts. During the closures, employees will be assigned to maintenance or training. The measures will, however, result in around 900 redundancies in several US factories.
After the introduction of a 25% tariff on vehicles imported into the United States, the head of Stellantis’ American operations, Antonio Filosa, decided to suspend activity at several sites. “[We] have decided to take some immediate actions, including temporarily pausing production at some of our Canadian and Mexican assembly plants.
