On 04 September 2015, much to the surprise of all, the business leaders’ confederation, Svenskt Näringsliv announced that it was halting negotiations with the PTK (Swedish Federation of Salaried Employees in Industry and Services) over a new agreement for career transitioning. The agreement affects 850,000 private sector workers and in particular allows for fixing new priority rules for redundancy that would replace the current principle of “Last in first out” in order to better account for skills. However the negotiations exacerbated inter-union disagreements between the unions representing workers and employees and the unions representing highly qualified skilled employees.
The final proposals. Disappointment is widespread because negotiations were in their final stage. These negotiations started in 2012, were interrupted in 2014, and restarted before the summer 2015 (c.f. article No. 9142). People were expectant but also nervous because several unions were concerned that the agreement’s provisions could weaken the LAS (law on job security).
