LO (landsorganisationen), the Swedish Trade Union Confederation which gathers 14 federations, has presented its claims for the 2013 bargaining session. In order to reconcile competitiveness for companies and equal pay, it suggests a new method to calculate increases. It also presented 3 new claims on social insurance, which it wishes to negotiate with the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise (Svenskt Näringsliv) directly. (Ref. 120625)

By presenting its new system, LO is implicitly considering that wages in the industry should be a reference to boost companies’ competitiveness. “We need to take responsibility for the layoffs in the exporting industry. The sector exposed to international competition should become a reference in terms of pay” explained Annelie Nordström, leader of the Swedish Municipal Workers’ Union (Svenska Kommunalarbetareförbundet).
