Sweden: new agreements for metal and chemistry workers supervise appeal to temporary work

The overall provisions of these agreements are similar to those contained in the agreement for white-collar workers and executives in the industry (see our dispatch No. 100257). IF Metall obtained a 3.2% wage increase over 22 months (0.9% on June 1, 2010 and 2.3% one year later). Local negotiations may move back the first increase, but not beyond June 1, 2011. For businesses in the technical sector, this provision leads to an increase of average pay amounting to SEK 742 (€76) a month. It also provides for a guaranteed limited individual increase of SEK 392 (€40) a month as of April 1, 2011. Even though the IF Metall’s leader thinks that it was hard to obtain more “realistic” increases this year, he is satisfied because the increase equals that granted to white-collar workers and executives in the industry, giving the sector homogeneity.
