After “eat like a Swede” here comes “work like a Swede”. The Swedish music streaming group Spotify is spreading the country’s gender equality model by implementing a global parental leave policy in a bid to compete with Silicon Valley employers. Swedish style working is also the theme of two English video clips produced by the Swedish union confederation TCO as part of a youth campaign that it has been leading for almost two years with the message that the labor market owes a lot to collective negotiation.
Global parental leave at Spotify. The Swedish music streaming group is quite young (under ten years old) and employs 1,600, 400 of whom work in the US. On 19 November Spotify announced it would implement global parental leave that intends for:
- Employees working fulltime to have access to six months parental leave on full pay
- Employees to take this leave until the child reaches three years old and to apply to parents whose children are born after 01 January 2013
