Volvo Personvagnar (Volvo Cars) is Sweden’s primary automobile constructor. Since 2010 the company has been owned by the Chinese group Geely (Zhejiang Geely Holding Group). During production of the new XC 90 car, the IF Metall union together with Volvo management agreed to changes in an agreement over working time that has been operation for the past 15 years. The signatories to the agreement recognize the need to take into account the new economic reality and this agreement allows production units to quickly adapt to order flows.
Reasons for modifying the agreement. The previous agreement on the length of work time dates back 15 years. According to the signatories of the new agreement, since that time things have changed and competition is on the increase. It is now a question of letting workers have more flexibility to adapt their workloads to the order flows. Hence the need for the new agreement.
