Referendum outcome. Despite predictions of a close finish, the accord extension was approved by just under 60% of voters. In total, the bilateral agreement providing for the free movement of workers between the EU and Switzerland was approved by 22 of the 26 cantons, with opposition geographically contained to the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino and German-speaking cantons Schwyz, Glarus and Appenzell Innerrhoden, as anticipated.
