For Slovenia, the Commission considered that it “arrived to a high degree of durable economic convergence with the other Member States and that it fulfils the conditions necessary to adopt the euro”. On the basis of the convergence report, the Commission will thus propose to the Finance Ministers of the EU, during the Council of next July, that Slovenia adopt the euro as of 1 January 2007. The European Commission invites Slovenia and Lithuania to be careful on the evolution of wages
The European Commission gave its opinion, on 16 May 2006, on the capacity of Slovenia and Lithuania to join the euro zone as of 1 January 2007. Slovenia is doing well, but Lithuania must be patient. These two States are invited to remain vigilant on the inflation risk and the evolution of wages. (Réf. 06490)
