In Tunisia on September 2, 2014 the German group Knauf, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of building materials, opened its second training center. The result of a public/private finance initiative with the assistance from the German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation (GIZ), this project fixes two objectives: both raise awareness in Tunisia of the gypsum based industry and enhance the profession in order to make up for a chronic labor shortage in the industry.
Train a top quality labor force. On Tuesday September 2, 2014 Knauf opened a training center in the gypsum center of Maknassy, a town in the province of Sidi Bouzid. The first center was opened in Tunis. The new center is in the south of the country where the Tunisian revolution started. The area has one of the highest levels of unemployment in the country and offers “a significant opportunity to develop the plasterboard sector” according to the press release.
