Delegates from 31 unions and 23 countries came together at the UNI Europa Commerce conference from June 01 – 03 to approve its four-year action plan. The main theme was the issue of how unions can guarantee high quality jobs in a changing working environment (franchising, e-commerce, etc.) The delegates discussed decent work, combatting Sunday working and working unsocial hours, promoting social dialogue, EWCs, and global framework agreements (GFAs).
Changing working environment. With this as their starting point UNI Europa Commerce members wanted to provide for specific action that would strengthen workers’ positions in the European commerce sector. Laila Castaldo, head of UNI Europa Commerce, underlined that “we want targeted responses to developments facing the sector, especially linked to the franchising system and to e-commerce.” As such UNI Europa will collect and share its members’ and any other organization’s best practices on issue
