A European day of action with Unilever's employees took place, on December 4, under the aegis of the European Federation of Food, Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions (EFFAT) and of the European Mine, Chemistry and Energy Federation (EMCEF). Despite this action, unions are struggling to organise a joint front. (Ref. 070995)
Whereas 500 people were expected in Rotterdam, over 600 staff representatives from all over Europe gathered at the conference centre De Doelen and national demonstrations were simultaneously organised in six countries (Germany, Spain, France, great Britain, Italy and Poland). The goal was to protest against the announcement, on August 2, of the suppression of 20.000 at Unilever (11% of the total workforce), 12.000 of them in Europe (see our article No. 070792).
