After consulting victims, businesses and NGOs, the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner (IASC) has published a report showing that the UK is lagging behind in the fight against forced labour. The body has even drafted a ready-made bill to encourage the executive to legislate quickly on the issue.
In its report published in December, the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner calls for the imposition of human rights due diligence requirements. “The government wants to make the UK the best place in the world to do business”, said Eleonore Lyons, the commissioner, adding that the country’s legal framework does not protect workers from modern slavery.
