The UK’s National Living Wage (NLW) – for those aged 23 and over – will increase by 9.7% from April 2023, rising from £9.50 (€10.95) per hour to £10.42 (€12.01). The hike was announced on 17 November when the new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak presented his first budgetary measures. As Jeremy Hunt, the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, points out, the rise represents the “biggest ever increase in the minimum wage” and is expected to affect 2 million people.
