The British construction workers’ union UCATT is to merge with the country’s largest trade union, Unite. The merger, which will be effective as of 1 January 2017, will create a dominant union in the construction sector and marks a turning point in the country.
Of UCATT’s 80,000-plus members, 85.5% voted in favour of the merger which will significantly alter the country’s trade union landscape. The move will continue the process of consolidation that the UK has seen since the 1980s.
