United States: a bill favoring union establishment could change the social landscape

Here is our first layover in the United States mentioning the Employee free choice Act (EFCA,) supposed to reverse the decline of American unions. The latter set this law as their priority, since it would facilitate their establishment in businesses in the private sector, where unionization rate reaches 7.5%, i.e. one third of their strength in 1983. Barack Obama's accession to the White House and the seats won in Congress by the Democratic Party are raising the hope of seeing unions fulfilled during the first quarter of 2009. (Ref. 080885)

Barack Obama said that he supported this bill: “We will
pass the Employee Free Choice Act. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of
when.” Adopted by the House of Representatives in 2007, it failed in Senate
because it didn’t get a large enough majority to be free from the filibuster.
