The US President wants to expand the pool of workers eligible for overtime. Up until now a worker earning over 23,660$ a year was not eligible for overtime pay. The President is looking to raise this threshold to 50,440$. Five million people will be affected.
Labor regulations come under the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) that was voted in 1938. The law intends for workers who are paid per hour and who regularly work more than 40 hours per week to receive overtime pay (1.5 times hourly pay). The legislator does however provide for exemptions. Managerial executives, senior administrators, certain computing experts, senior sales… in short white collar well paid employees that do not have to time stamp their working hours because 40 hours per week does
