United States: for the first time in the history of American unionism, there are more unionized civil servants than employees

The average American union member is a civil servant. For the first time since the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) started looking into these statistics, the number of unionized workers in civil service has exceeded the number of unionized employees in the private sector, even though the workforce is five times higher in the latter. Thus, 7.9 million employees belonged to a union in the public sector and only 7.4 million in the private sector. In one year, employees belonging to a union in the private sector went from 8.2 million to barely 7.4 million.
