United States: health care reform passed

President Barack Obama should soon sign the health care reform after over 50 years of prevarication. Indeed, the House Representatives voted (219 for, 212 against) the text adopted by the Senate in December. The representatives also sent the senate 153 pages of amendments, negotiated between the Houses and the White House, which the Senators will have to look at starting this week and approve with a simple majority vote. So, what does this act do? Provide health insurance for 32 million Americans who weren’t covered by health care until now and relative equanimity for people insured, whom insurance companies can no longer boot out of the system when they please.

Gradual enforcement. However, the process is gradual and the implementation of the measures announced will spread through 2020. The act’s effect will first be felt six months after it is promulgated.
