union membership had a much bigger impact than anticipated on the rise of pay unfairness in the United States. This is the conclusion of two renowned sociology professors in their latest study, “Unions, Norms and the Rise in American Wage Inequality.” Bruce Western, from Harvard University, and Jake Rosenfeld, from the University of Washington, think that 33% of wage inequality observed among men in the private sector is due to unions’ lessened influence – only 20% for women.
