Silicon Valley’s support workers are joining forces. Shuttle bus drivers for Apple, Yahoo, Ebay, Zynga, Genetech, and Amtrak have voted for representation by Teamsters Local 853 with a view to narrowing the gap between their pay and that of their high tech passengers.
Teamsters will now be able to start negotiating with Compass Transportation, a large bus contractor for the Silicon Valley high-tech companies. At first glance Teamster’s presence in the Valley appears quite modest with only 158 workers being unionized.
