California’s ‘ride-hailing’ company, Uber has come to an agreement with drivers of the New York Independent Drivers Guild, which is linked with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW). Uber management continues to refuse any union intervention in its affairs and also refuses to discuss fares; drivers’ rates, holiday pay, and overtime pay rates. However the five-year agreement does intend for monthly meetings between the Guild and Uber management.
In a move to settle a class action labor dispute in California, Uber signed an agreement in which it commits to entering into discussions with drivers associations, although it would still not enter into any negotiations (c.f. article No.9624).
