The City Council of Seattle decided, last Monday, unanimously that Uber’s drivers may form a Union to negotiate their wages and work conditions.
Seattle did it. The city council is the first in America to allow Uber drivers to form unions. In fact the ordinance, voted unanimously by 8 city officials has given the drivers of Uber, its competitor Lyft and other more traditional taxi companies relying on independent contractors, a new framework in which to organize collective bargaining.
