United States: unions worried about the Trans-Pacific free trade pact
President Obama’s government has just concluded five days of non-stop marathon talks with the other eleven Pacific Rim countries eventually ending in a free trade agreement. Unionists in the AFL-CIO are skeptical over how serious the countries will actually be in applying the ILO rules that they have committed to respecting in signing this agreement. Similarly they are worried for the future of US workers in the auto industry, textiles, and in the agro-food industry.
