The future President of the United Auto Workers (UAW) will be Dennis Williams. The man who used to be secretary-treasurer was elected by his peers during a recent meeting in Dearborn, Michigan. His new position should become official in June, at the UAW’s annual convention. Other novelty: he isn’t coming from the auto industry but started in the tractor industry. (Ref. 130694)
Current UAW leader Bob King isn’t running again because, aged 67, he believes that it’s time to step down. And he believes that his faithful right-hand man, Dennis Williams, 60, is perfectly ready to take on this role. “He’s a smart leader,” Bob King said. “He has experience with bargaining, unionization campaigns and political action. These are three important qualities to maintain UAW members’ decent standard of living.”
