Several social measures introduced under Barack Obama – including making labour law violations public and even prevention of workplace risks – have been either suspended or quashed by Donald Trump’s administration, during the first two months of his presidency.
Although the Trump administration is yet to have its Secretary of Labor in place*, it has not stopped them rolling back social legislation introduced under Obama. While quashing regulations in the oil sector and those which protect waterways, for example, have attracted the most attention, President Trump is also keen to keep his promise to get rid of “anachronistic labor laws”, which he believes have been a nuisance to the jobs market (see article n°9915).
