This year too, the social movement focused on the extremely early opening hours in American stores the day after thanksgiving (Black Friday), or even on thanksgiving day, the first day of the holiday shopping season in the US (see our dispatch No. 110724). An employee from the Target supermarket chain sent a petition to the company’s CEO, asking him to save thanksgiving, “one of the three days retail workers get off a year.” The petition got over 350,000 signatures on www.change.org.
