Despite the fact that Walmart initiated actions with a view to improving its associates' scheduling in response to the strike action organised in the Autumn, including during the crucial Black Friday, the retailer again faces serial stoppages one week from its annual general meeting when the Our Walmart movement has promised massive mobilisation. The turn of the year, when Our Walmart, the movement for the “respect” of employees of the world number one retailer rejoiced that the company was “reacting to the calls for change from Our Walmart and the tens of thousands of supporters who have been standing up to the company”, seems a long way away! The declaration came after Walmart CEO Bill Simon committed to improving the scheduling for associates, who in the United States can work at any time of day or night as many stores are open 24/7.
