The Court of Justice of the European Communities rendered, on October 23, 2007, its decision in the case opposing the European Commission to Germany about the German "Volkswagen" law which enabled to lock the capital of the German car manufacturer (see our article No. 070877). Ruling that most of this law's provisions were contrary to Community Law, the Court of Justice is forcing Germany to revise this text. The IG Metall wants this mechanism to be maintained. As expected, the verdict if the Court of Justice was vividly criticized by the German metal sector union IG Metall, as well as by Volkswagen’s central works council.
