On 1 March 2024, Saudi Arabian oil company Aramco (valued at US$7.62 billion) acquired Chile’s Esmax Distribucion SPA from the Southern Cross Group (100% buyout, amount not disclosed). The deal marks an entry into the South American service station market. Esmax is the 3rd largest fuel retailer in Chile, with 279 service stations and 130 stores, as well as a stake in an oil pipeline and in Santiago airport for the storage of aviation fuel.
