Archie Norman
(aged 63) will become Chairman of Marks&Spencer from September 1, delighting investors. He will replace Robert Swannell, who served as Chairman for 6 years. A Harvard graduate, Norman was the Finance Director of Kingfisher in the 1980’s and C.E.O. of Asda hypermarkets between 1991 and 2000, where he turned around the fortunes of Wal-Mart’s business in the U.K. He also held various top executive roles at Wesfarmers, Target and Coles.
