According to the GFK institute, the average purchasing power per capita (revenue available for consumption and savings) rose by just 0.3% in 2016 over the 42 European countries surveyed, reaching an average of €13,672. Spain is the only country to match this European average. Although the four most populated countries (Germany, UK, France and Italy) account for 40% of the European population and 60% of its purchasing power, their purchasing power remained flat this year.
