According to the UNWTO, Qatar’s international overnight visitors fell by 45% in June when compared to June 2016. This follows a boycott of the country by the U.A.E. In May 2017, tourists to Qatar fell by6.8%, and from January to July 2017, this fell by 7% year-on-year. To counter economic isolation, in August Qatar abolished visas for nationals of more than 80 countries. Visitors to the Middle East as a whole saw a 9% rise of visitors in H1 2017.
