Majid Al Futtaim, the operator of Carrefour’s franchise in the Gulf region, is said to be in negotiations regarding Spinneys’ supermarkets in Lebanon. The Portuguese retailer Sonae confirmed it is also in talks with Spinneys, as Sonae would be allied with a local partner in the deal. Spinneys runs 61 grocery stores and its owner is Abraaj Group from Egypt. It is involved in a fierce expansion plan, with 18 new stores expected to open in the next three years.
