The steel group Arcelor-Mittal (310.000 employees) and three union organizations – the International Metalworkers' Federation (IMF), the European Metalworkers' Federation (EMF) and the American union United Steelworkers (USW) signed, on June 3, 2008 in Luxembourg, a global agreement establishing health and safety committees in all the plants of the group. The agreement, “the first of its kind in
the steel industry,” say the signatory parties, in particular includes the
creation of joint health and safety committees in every plant of the group
throughout the world, headed by a global joint committee in charge of these
issues as well as training programs. “Health and safety is our number one priority,”
