Argentina: bill to force businesses to share profit with employees

All Argentinean businesses after two years in business will have to share 10% of their earnings with their employees.  The bill introducing the “System of Employee Participation in Corporate Profit” was introduced by Argentinean MP Hector Recalde from the Parliamentary majority.  If approved, the initiative will gradually be applied over three years.  Only businesses with 300+ employees would be affected the first year, then with 100+ employees the second year, and finally, the entire private sector.  A supervisory board answering to the Labor Ministry will determine when businesses have to start sharing profit.  The idea that workers should enjoy part of their employer’s economic input comes from a clause added to the Argentinean constitution in 1957.
