Going forward and in accordance with Resolution 286, signed by Labor Minister Claudio Moroni, the numbers on the Unique Labor Identification Code (CUIL, Código Único de Identificación Laboral) will no longer identify the holder’s gender. New CUIL numbers will be set up with a random generic prefix instead of the former gender binary prefix. This is to protect individuals from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Both the National Social Security Administration and the (AFIP) Federal Administration of Public Income will have to adapt their IT systems accordingly stated the Labor Minister on 31 May. A working committee will be set up to identify ‘mechanisms for operating and interacting with the public agencies required to implement the changes in the CUIL and in the Unique Tax Identification Code (CUIT, Clave Unica de Identificacion Tributaria).’ Individuals whose CUIL number was assigned prior to the effective date of the measure and who are covered by the Gender Identity Law can only apply once for a new code number.
