Following last week’s demonstration and against a backdrop of scheduled mobilizations should negotiations fail, the metals workers’ union, UOM (unión obrera metalúrgica) has signed a 35% wage rise, which is higher than levels secured in other organizations’ agreements.
The wage rise will occur in several stages. The first tranche of 20% is to be paid retroactively to 01 April 2016, an additional 7% is scheduled for 01 August 2016, and the final tranche of 6% is to be paid from 01 October 2016. This comes to 33% to which will be added a lump sum payment to each worker of 2,000 Pesos (€123) making a total increase of 35%.
