On October 1, Argentina’s parliamentary majority voted for the unification of the former Civil and Commercial Codes, considered “too archaic and not relevant to Argentina’s modern society”. The new text addresses relationships between private individuals, and after President Cristina Kirchner’s signature, it will come into force on January 1, 2016. The text is not without controversy however, and both unions and parliamentary opposition members are worried about several issues.
