The Australian government recently sent to Parliament its bill to reform the Fair Work Act. It limits union representatives’ access to the workplace, amends some aspects of collective bargaining (Greenfields agreements) or even adds flexibility to the possibility of individual agreements to derogate from collective agreements.
This bill contains many of the recommendations made by the working group in charge of undertaking a wide consultation on the review of the Fair Work Act and of summarizing the results (Towards more productive and equitable workplaces: An evaluation of the Fair Work legislation – June 2012). The bill won’t be adopted at once: they must wait for July 1, 2014, when the new senators come into office.
