On 7 March, Australian finance minister Katy Gallagher announced that the centre-left Labour government will pay superannuation contributions – of 12% of workers’ salary – for those taking parental leave. Currently, workers do not receive any pension contributions when on parental leave. The government payments will go into their pension pot.
