Australia: law passed to guarantee equal treatment for temporary workers and salaried employees

On December 7, the Australian parliament passed the ‘Same Job, Same Pay’ bill. The aim of the bill is to ensure that workers hired through a temporary employment agency during a company’s peak period enjoy the same pay and working conditions as permanent employees doing the same work. Any breach of the law by the employer could result in a prison sentence. Tony Burke, the country’s labour relations minister, said it was a “great day for workers’ wages and safety”.
