For the first trimester of 2007, the Austrian labour index (Arbeitskostenindex – AKI – social charges and wages per hour), which Statistik Austria presented last week, improved of 2.3% when compared to the same period in 2006. In the first trimester of 2006, the AKI had only progressed of 1.5%. When compared to the situation in other EU countries, this progression remains measured but marks a resurgence, whereas the part of Austrian wages in the country’s GDP kept receding in the past few years

According to the Austrian statistics office (Statistik Austria), labour cost in Austria increased faster than expected in the first trimester of 2007, in a context of important unemployment decrease and an outburst of temporary work. (Ref. 070562)
