The contrast between Österreichische Post (ÖPAG) and Deutsche Post could not be more striking. Whilst German unions are going out on strike to secure a 5.5% salary rise and to combat Deutsch Post’s outsourcing policy involving headcount reductions (c.f. article No. 9121) the Austrian social partners are gently awarding themselves a 1.9% salary rise as of July 01, 2015. The pay rise affects the civil servant workers, as well as the later hires (pre 2009), as well as the recent hires (post 2009).
…Austria: Postal workers to receive a 1.9% pay rise
The social partners at the Österreichische Post have awarded a 1.9% wage rise to all of its 24,000 workers. The minimum salary of recent hires (after 2009) and working in the network of agencies were previously raised to 1,600€ per month. This affects some 4,000 staff. The quite positive 2014 financial results allowed a profit sharing bonus of 832€ to be paid to workers this spring.
